This scholarship supports students studying in the School of Biological Sciences at the University of Canterbury for the degree of PhD in the areas of limnology or environmental science, preferably of the South Island. The scholarship may be held by only one recipient at a time, and is therefore not available every year.

a. financial assistance at a value of $16,000 per annum.

Scholarship Eligibility and Criteria

To be considered for the Vida Stout Scholarship for International Students at University of Canterbury, 2020, applicants are to meet the following criteria:

  • Applicants must be international students enrolling for a doctoral study programme in Biological Sciences at the University of Canterbury, New Zealand.
  • Applicants must have obtained good grades in Bachelor and Masters level in relevant courses from recognized a university.
  • Applicants must demonstrate strong academic as well as leadership potential evident in relevant scholarly publications.
  • Applicants must possess strong leadership potential and must be able to communicate effectively with people of diverse race and background.

Applicable enrolment during tenure: Open to full-time students studying in the School of Biological Sciences at the University of Canterbury for the degree of PhD with an emphasis on limnology, or environmental science, preferably of the South Island. Applicants studying limnology will be given preference.

Citizenship/residency requirements: There are no citizenship or resident requirements for this scholarship.
